The Best Stretches to Start Your Day Off Right

Each morning, you have a chance to start anew. It all begins with your mindset, your motivation, and most importantly, some movement!


We could all use some extra energy during the day, and we all deserve to feel good. Including some stretches into your morning routine will help you begin the day feeling energized and ready to tackle whatever life has to throw at you. So, set your alarm, get a good night’s sleep, and get ready to start the next day off right with these simple stretches:


  1. Child’s Pose

This stretch is imperative to start the day off on a good foot (literally!) Gently sit on the floor or a yoga mat, sit back on your legs and stretch your arms out in front of you. Take a few deep breaths and enjoy! This simple movement will feel amazing on your glutes, hips, pelvis, and thighs.


  1. Cat-Cow    

These two movements will help to stretch your spine, abs, and neck, resulting in a relaxed, relieving feeling after completing. Start off on all fours, take a deep breath, and arch your back. In doing so, tilt your head up towards the ceiling. As you exhale, round your back, and look down. Continue doing these two movements slowly for a rejuvenating stretch.  


  1. Downward Dog   

We’ve all heard of this stretching-staple move! It can be a therapeutic practice for sciatica and can even relieve back pain. Plus, it works your arms, core, hamstrings, and more for an all-encompassing stretch. Start on all fours and using your arms, push back into a bridge-like pose. Your arms should be supporting your body, while your legs extend out and push into the floor. While looking down stretch your shoulder blades and feel the movement in your calves and hamstrings. As you begin to settle into this pose, you can “walk your dog” by bending and stretching your legs one at a time. Take it easy with this pose, and don’t forget to breathe!
